At a special meeting on the 3rd August, Wirral Council Planning Committee voted unanimously to support the central part of Peel's £4.5 billion regeneration proposals for Wirral Waters in Birkenhead and Wallasey Docks. The proposals are expected to take 30-40 years to build out and create more than 20,000 new jobs in one of the most deprived parts of the country.
The decision represents the culmination of four years of masterplanning, engagement with key stakeholders, public consultations and partnership working with Wirral Borough Council with our Manchester Office acting as lead planning and urban design consultants for the Peel Project Team.
The East Float application is the largest outline planning application in the UK, comprising proposals for over 15 million square feet of new development including c.13,500 new dwellings, 4.5 million square feet of commercial floorspace, 1 million square feet of cultural, education, leisure and civic accommodation and supporting hotel, retail and food and drink facilities.
This is an outline application with all detailed matters reserved for subsequent approval but with a series of parameters, principles and strategies built into the permission to secure the future design quality of buildings and public realm and to ensure that the development proceeds in a co-ordinated way. The outline planning permission will have a 25 year life for the submission of reserved matters and commencement of development.
