Press release: 14 June 2011
Planning and Urban Design consultancy Turley Associates, acting for Stoford Developments and Admiral Group, has secured planning permission for a new purpose built corporate headquarters office building for Admiral in Cardiff.
Planning permission was granted, subject to the resolution of a s106 agreement, on Wednesday 8 June. Construction will begin on the 12 storey, 29,000 sq m building towards the end of the year and is expected to be completed in 2014. Admiral, the only FTSE 100 listed company in Wales, employs 4,000 across South Wales, with 2,000 currently working in Cardiff. The new Cardiff HQ will be capable of accommodating up to 3,000 staff.
Dr Tom Rocke, Director in the Cardiff office of Turley Associates said: "The application was submitted in mid-March following detailed pre-application discussions with Cardiff Council, local stakeholders and members of the public, which have helped to shape the proposals. The Glenn Howells Architects designed building has met with enthusiastic support from the Design Commission Wales and from the Cardiff Central Area Conservation Group."
Tom adds: "We are absolutely delighted with this decision, and believe that it will provide a landmark building that will enhance the townscape of this part of Cardiff City Centre, as well as retaining and creating a very significant number of new jobs which will benefit the City as a whole."
Huw Llewellyn, Group Facilities Manager for Admiral Group said: "We are pleased with the decision; we will now work towards the next steps of the process to provide a fantastic building for our staff and working towards the 106 agreement for the city. It will allow us to continue to grow and truly cements our commitment to Cardiff and South Wales."
