Location: Liverpool John Lennon Airport, Liverpool
Status: Masterplan adopted
Size: Masterplan to allow expansion to 10 million passengers per annum
Scale: Regional
We have advised Liverpool Airport Plc on expansion of the airport since 2004. Providing strategic and tactical advice to ensure a positive framework for bringing forward individual development proposals.
We have acted as lead consultant in preparation of an environmental assessment of the airport masterplan; made representations to the development plan to secure a positive policy context; secured permission for new parking and hotel development; and progressed operational works through permitted development.
The masterplan was prepared in response to the White Paper: The Future of Air Transport to guide expansion of the airport to 2030. It provides for extension of the runway, additional airfield infrastructure and terminal and parking facilities to facilitate 10 million passengers per annum and the development of a world cargo centre capable of accommodating 170,000 sq m of air freight storage and distribution buildings on land to the south of the airport.
The masterplan was adopted following extensive dialogue with key stakeholders including local and regional planning authorities and a major public consultation exercise involving all communities with an interest in the development of the airport.
Early phases of expansion have included relocation of playing fields to secure permission for airport-related B1 and B8 buildings and development of a new multi-storey car park and 155 bed hotel in front of the terminal.
