Following the successful completion of a competitive tender process, we were commissioned by Nurton Developments to create a masterplan for a sustainable mixed use urban extension to Burton upon Trent.

The key issues were:

• Deciding on the appropriate mix of uses between residential, employment, leisure and community facilities
• How the masterplan linked back to Burton upon Trent town centre
• Ensuring the existing mature trees, hedgerows and ecological features were retained and incorporated where possible
• Consideration of sustainability issues such as combined heat and power, micro generation and sustainable urban drainage systems
• The strategy to promote the site as part of the local development framework in order that the site is put forward as a preferred option for mixed use development
