SAINSBURY’S SUPERMARKETS LIMITED
Retail-led mixed-use scheme on 21.5ha (53a) in south west Birmingham, representing one of the city’s largest regeneration opportunities. Proposals include supermarket and non-food stores, leisure, residential and employment uses and significant infrastructure works. The planning permission provides for over 1.8 million sq ft of development.

- Advice on planning strategy to secure client’s objectives
- Preparation, submission and negotiation of planning application
- Preparation of Retail Capacity and Impact Assessment
- Preparation of Design and Access Statement
- Co-ordination of complex Environmental Statement
- Liaison with the local planning authority, statutory bodies and local and national interest groups
- Co-ordination of the professional project team
Results:
- Promotion of a flexible mixed-use approach to a highly contaminated brownfield site, comprising 10 development plots
- Identification of wider regeneration benefits for the shopping centre and the surrounding area, including regional hospital and University
- Innovative approach to resolving complex environmental, highway, and planning issues
- Delivery of key sustainability objectives
- Planning permission secured including S106 Agreement
