MERSEY DOCKS AND HARBOUR COMPANY

Development of an initial cluster of 6 wind turbines within the existing commercial docks overlooking busy shipping lanes.  Each of the 53m high towers has three 22m blades and produces 600kw of electricity for the local electricity grid. Second phase of a further 5 wind turbines to extend the facility along dock frontage.

Turley Associates’ Role:

  • Advice on planning strategy
  • Lead consultant for Environmental Statement
  • Preparation and submission of planning application and subsequent appeal
  • Instruction of Counsel and co-ordination of evidence to Public Inquiry
  • Lead consultant for application and Environmental Statement to extend the wind farm in 2005. Five additional 130m (total) height turbines proposed

Results:

  • Planning permission secured on appeal for phase 1 following refusal by the LPA on visual amenity grounds. That phase of the development is now complete and operational, providing sustainable energy for local electricity users
  • Phase 2 application successfully negotiated with Local Planning Authority and planning permission granted
