Ports and airports are gateways to Britain and indicators of commercial health.  As part of the national infrastructure facility there is an important national and regional scale to their consideration.  The older facilities will require updating and expansion, some new provision will be required.  Redundancy and redevelopment may be necessary. Major investment is also occuring in public transport infrastructure, new roads and distribution facilities.
