URBAN SPLASH

Regeneration of prominent former headquarters of Dunlop Tyres - a locally listed building.  The premises will be adapted for workspace and a mix of related uses including an associated hotel.

Turley Associates’ Role:

  • Leading negotiations on a strategy for the re-use of the building with the Local Authority and Government Office for the West Midlands
  • Advice on retail planning issues
  • Securing planning consents for re-use of the main building and for a hotel extension
  • Resolving the assessment and mitigation of environmental issues so as to enable the inclusion of housing and hotel uses

Results:

  • Securing the future of a landmark building that has been unused for 20 years
  • Bringing jobs and activity into the Regional Development Agency’s (RDA) East Birmingham and North Solihull Regeneration Area
  • Successful outcome to negotiations to bring about a flexible mixed use consent allowing viable use of a building outside a recognised centre
  • Transformation completed in 2007
