WEST HERTFORDSHIRE HOSPITALS NHS TRUST

Redevelopment of a 25 hectare site to the west of Watford Town Centre incorporating Watford General Hospital, Watford Football Club and the Cardiff Road Industrial Estate, to provide a new acute hospital facility, residential accommodation, commercial, retail and a new neighbourhood centre, new employment opportunities and improved accessibility to West Watford.

Turley Associates’ Role:

• Development of planning strategy to secure client's objectives
• On-going liaison with the local planning authority, statutory bodies and local and national interest groups as part of agreed consultation strategy
• Advice on the development of a masterplan, including preparation of development parameters and principles
• Co-ordination of public consultation and a Design Workshop
• Co-ordination of the professional project team
• Preparation and submission of outline planning application and Environmental Statement
• Negotiation of Section 106 and planning conditions

Results:

• Innovative approach to resolving complex environmental, highway and planning issues
• Delivery of key sustainability objectives
• Planning application submitted in July 2007
• Conditional permission granted May 2008
• Government Office resolves not to call in application August 2008
