Arkwright and Newton Buildings

An ambitious scheme by Hopkins Architects to connect two Grade II* listed buildings from different eras at the heart of the university's city centre campus, providing new teaching space, student services and a quadrangle.

Turley Associates’ Role:

  • Advice on planning strategy and application content
  • Liaison with client and consultant team to prepare applications
  • Negotiations with Nottingham City Council and senior officials from English Heritage
  • Preparation of PPG15 justification with architect and historic buildings advisor
  • Presentation material for English Heritage Advisory Committee

Results:

  • Planning permission and listed building consents granted in November 2006 following referral to the Secretary of State and decision not to intervene
