Turley Associates strikes Gold with Princesshay

Princesshay, a Land Securities retail scheme in Exeter, has received two major awards from the British Council for Shopping Centres (BCSC) at their annual Gold Awards ceremony.

Princesshay, for which Turley Associates worked with client Land Securities to formulate the masterplan and planning strategy for this exemplary retail scheme, was awarded both the Supreme Gold award and Best Shopping Centre accolade.

Judges commented that the scheme presented an elegant example of a retail led mixed use development whilst retaining the heritage of the site. This was integral to Turley Associates' analysis of the urban context of Exeter and securing planning consents.
Chairman of Turley Associates, Rob Turley, said: "We are delighted that Princesshay has been recognised by the BCSC. When we were working on the revised masterplan for the scheme, we forged close relationships with all stakeholders, including Exeter City Council, English Heritage and CABE to ensure that key obstacles were resolved and that we could deliver an exemplary retail led mixed use development.

"The culmination of these efforts has transformed this part of Exeter from tired post war secondary shopping to vibrant mixed use buildings, active public streets and squares.”

Princesshay was opened in September of this year and boasts 60 new shops, cafes and restaurants, 120 apartments, a 205 space car park, and heritage centre in several new buildings totalling in excess of 400,000 sq ft.

The BCSC Gold awards celebrate innovation in the shopping centre and retail destination industry. They are designed to reward excellence in retail led developments and commend projects which generate improvements in the quality of the built environment.
