Turley Associates secures planning permission for redevelopment of Central Retail Park Manchester
Planning and urban design consultancy Turley Associates, acting on behalf of Henderson UK Retail Warehouse Fund, has secured planning permission for the foodstore led regeneration of Central Retail Park Manchester
Central Retail Park on Great Ancoats Street is an established retail destination on the edge of Manchester city centre. The Retail Park is in need of refurbishment and reconfiguration to ensure that it continues to provide an important retail function for the residents of Ancoats, New Islington and the city centre.
The application was approved at Manchester City Council’s Planning and Highways Committee Meeting on 30 May, will see the demolition of the retail units on the eastern part of the site making way for a new supermarket, cinema and smaller retail units with undercroft car parking. The scheme will also refurbish and upgrade four retained retail units.
Graham Love, a Director in the Manchester office of Turley Associates said: “We are delighted with this decision. This scheme will secure a key investment on a priority site for regeneration and address the under provision of retail facilities for local residents. This investment will create approximately 350-400 full and part time new jobs at the new foodstore, with further jobs in the associated retail units, providing a significant boost to the local job market.”
A key design enhancement of the scheme, designed by Hadfield Cawkwell Davidson, is the creation of a new pedestrian link at the heart of the development, linking the new foodstore and the retained retail units. This link will provide access and improve permeability from Great Ancoats Street to Cotton Fields Park and the neighbourhoods beyond.
Work on the site is expected to begin on site later in the year.
