Planning permission sought to erect 18 wind turbines on the summit of Slieve Rushen mountain, which is located in the southern most part of County Fermanagh.

Turley Associates’ Role:

  • Advice on planning strategy
  • Pre-application discussions with key stakeholders, including Planning Service
  • Lead consultant in preparation of Environmental Statement, involving co-ordination of project team including Landscape, Climate, Ecology, Archaeology, Transport, Noise, Shadow Flicker, Electromagnetic Impact and Hydrology consultants
  • Submission of planning application
  • Negotiations with Planning Service
  • Co-ordination and submission of archaeological and ecological reports to deal with conditions attached to planning permission

Results:

  • Planning Permission secured for 18 3MW turbines, each 125m high on 4 October 2006
  • Planning Conditions relating to ecology and archaeology satisfied through the submission of additional report post-approval
  • Wind farm has now been constructed and is the largest operational windfarm in Northern Ireland with a rating of 54MW, enough to power 16,000 homes
