UNIVERSITY OF WARWICK
CAMPUS MASTERPLAN
Securing planning permission for the next 10 years of masterplanned development of the University of Warwick campus on the outskirts of Coventry, including significant expansion in the Green Belt.
Turley Associates’ Role:
- Strategic planning advisors to the University of Warwick since 2003
- Representations to development plans including Regional Spatial Strategy
- Working with MacCormac Jamieson Prichard, development plan architects, to prepare campus masterplan
- Drafting of University’s campus vision and masterplan objectives
- Establishment of Steering Group with local authorities and regional agencies to build consensus
- Advice on and involvement in extensive pre-application community engagement over two year period
- Preparation and submission of outline planning application straddling two local authority areas for 170 000 sq m (1.8m sq ft) of development over next 10 years
- Negotiation of planning approval and Section 106 Agreement
Results:
- Secured Major Developed Site in Green Belt designation in Warwick Local Plan Review
- Building consensus from local authorities and regional agencies to support planning strategy
- Successful outcome to public consultation resulting in very few objections to the application
- Avoiding call-in for an application comprising significant development in the Green Belt
- Planning permission for phased implementation of campus masterplan over next 10 years
