Boris Johnson has outlined his vision and strategy to make London the ‘best city on earth’ through an integrated economic, social, environmental and transport policy framework up to 2031.
The Mayor has sought to distinguish the emphasis between inner and outer London, giving equal importance to both policy areas, this being a core aspiration of the election manifesto which set Boris Johnson apart from Ken Livingston.
The provision of additional housing is a key focus of the document, with annual targets for the delivery of housing and affordable housing. As expected there is also a continued emphasis on internal space standards.
Climate change continues to be in the spotlight, however it is notable that there is only a ‘presumption’ for developments to achieve a 20% reduction in Carbon Dioxide emissions from renewables, rather than a mandatory policy requirement.
Consultation on the document runs until 12 January 2010, with the final document to be published Winter 2011/2012.
